root crops- carrots, beets, garlic, potatoes. brassicas- kale, broccoli, cabbage. dry beans. About Us We are horse-powered family farm right outside of Sandpoint. We have been farming here for the past 7 years. We moved to Sandpoint shortly after our first child was born. We feel it is a good place to raise a family. We homestead our personal property, and lease approximately 55 acres of neighboring lands. We farm using 2-4 draft horses and an old farmall h tractor. Browse through our Products for Sale Practices (our standards for raising or making our products) We make extensive use of cover crops, crop rotations, and utilizing alternative tillage techniques. We produce all our own compost from deep bedding in our stalls from horses, chickens, and occasional cows. We farm following the strictest of organic standards. We welcome our patrons to be our certifiers. At Prancing Pony Farms we look to see the culture put back into agriculture. Additional Information Our farm utilizes draft horses as a power source. We find it is a practical application that is not going back, rather leaving options open for the future. There are many benefits to using draft animals. These can include ecological, economical, time and scale defining benefits. |
